Ever heard of 'kutu'?
I know you know but it's not the bug on your head. It's the old ways (I think it's still around) where you gather among your friends a small sum of money to be collected and make turns to get it.
For example, if you and your friends (let's say you and 9 other friends = total 10 ppl) each gather RM100, the total will be RM1000 (you RM100 + your 9 other friends RM100 each = total RM900). Let's say all of you decided that each month will be the payout, then you need to decide which of the 10 months will be your turn. Normally, they will do draw to decide who will be the 1st receiver, 2nd receiver and so on until the last receiver which is the 10th receiver. So, in all the 10 months, you and your friends will be contributing RM100 each month until the last person receives his or hers. Then need to decide if want to start a new one again.
This method is good when you got something urgent and the money is there. And if it's not your turn yet, you can ask your other friends whom still waiting their turns if can switch position with you. Some friends wouldn't mind as not many of them need the money urgently. But you still need to contribute until the 10th month.
It is something like putting a deposit without any interest. Old times people do it to put faith and trust to their friends as true friendship are important at the time. Now mostly people will just put into savings account and put in as many as they please and take out as they please also.
